WEBBY RECIPIENT
Which to pick? The analysis of this section is challenging because I responded to The Tiziano project and Voiceless Eyes in different ways with strength. Even though I had a stronger overall reaction to the entire Voiceless Eyes, the initial page was not enough. The black background of The Tiziano Project's website drew my attention to the content. It created a relaxing effect. The short vertical size of the website creates a limit for the amount of information. This sort of limitation focuses the attention on what is already in front of the eye. The initial scan is not too long. The bar across the top of the screen with sans-serif typeface gives off a streamlined image of the word. It is direct and possesses space in between the letters and the edge of the box. This spatial representation is echoed in the upper right hand corner which holds space for a viewer to enter an email address...to "join." The icons of Facebook, Twitter, etc. are conveniently located just below this. It is easy for us to plug in to The Tiziano Project's feed.
The image in the upper left hand corner of a circular graphic draws the eye in a large part because of the contrast of orange against the black but also because the circles suggest an expansion outward from a central point. The serif typeface next to this image conveys style and this draws a viewer into a different mental space, a creative mental space. Does this have the potential to bring a feeling of expansion or relaxation in the viewer? Does this covey a feeling in the viewer?
Although the images are another major point of focus for the eye, in part because of the movement, in part because of the size. The image of folks sitting on the rocks in front of the ocean and the city was a striking image for me because when I see images of oceans or water, an immediate feeling of horizontal expansion occurs. A feeling of spreading in the mind. Is this because I grew up on Lake Michigan? Have all those years of looking out onto the water permeated me beneficially? I certainly responded this way when seeing the image. A group of people hanging out on the water, doing whatever, doing something, was one of the first things I saw. Often times pastimes can turn into significant experiences.
The rectangular bar below the images, with the orange and white symbol on its right end, pulls the viewer back into what The Tiziano Project is. The image signals a repetition, which suggests importance in a second look. The orange circle is bigger and the descriptions next to it bolster the significance of the size increase. The typeface of the description reflect the serif typeface up top on the left. Words in brown and orange-colored font are highlighted in a way that express main ideas. This also shortens time between viewer and object. The words are chosen specifically to connect and draw in.
