FOCUSING IN ON THE RESEARCH PROJECT


When considering documents for analysis (chomsky's writings on Anarcho-syndicalism) and a rhetorical analysis of a campaign, like the World Socialist Website, how do certain virtual documents from Wikileaks fit in? They do not deal with modes of production, but whistleblowing. To take this further, these whistleblowing documents deserve to be considered when thinking about overcoming current forms of government because they are from a virtual place that current forms of government cannot rule over. It is a transfer of power.

On the other hand what are the necessities of persuasion embedded in these parts? In what ways are these parts limited in their influence and how do they attempt to transform opinion, given their revolutionary nature?

1. When considering wikileaks as an example of effective activism, and the operations reliance on a kind of classified status, what are the implications of privilege regarding activism? How does this relate to government?

2. What is bitcoin's (a "digital currency . . .not backed by any country's central bank or government.)," revolutionary potential as it relates to socialism? As it relates to anarcho-syndicalism? http://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/Bitcoin

3. What are necessary aspects of a digital activist site? How does literature act as an impetus for activist engagement online?

Papachrissi's explains the public sphere in the words of Jurgen Habermas as a forum separate from the public as it relates to opinion and assembly. DEL GANDIO, "THE POWER OF LANGUAGE"

A main point of the chapter includes aspects to consider when moving into rhetorical engagement. Aspects include observation of language, awareness of the inherent power in words, how to frame language when moving into an argument, the context of the argument and audience and the social and political considerations to be made. Del Gandio's discussion of the propaganda breakdown formulated in a book by Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman (which sounds super interesting) during the Cold War is significant. Del Gandio states, "All propaganda is rhetorical, but not all rhetoric is propaganda" (120). He also mentions how the goals of propaganda exploit "people's desires while rhetoric seeks to liberate people's desires" (120).
